Flooding in Uttar Pradesh regions
Overview
Severe flooding has impacted several regions in Uttar Pradesh, notably in Chitrakoot and Varanasi. In Chitrakoot, the Mandakini River reached unprecedented levels, flooding areas near the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border. In Varanasi, the rising Ganga and Varuna rivers inundated 29 villages, displacing approximately 2,900 people and necessitating the establishment of 61 relief camps and community kitchens.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has conducted visits to the affected regions to review relief and rehabilitation efforts. Following an aerial survey in Chitrakoot, the Chief Minister distributed relief materials to 800 families, provided land allotment certificates to those rendered homeless, and disbursed financial assistance through the State Disaster Response Fund. During these efforts, Adityanath criticized previous administrations, alleging that prior to 2017, relief funds were misappropriated and victims received minimal aid.
