Florida hospital escape and carjacking

Overview

A 35-year-old man, Jordan Eugene Brown, was arrested in Florida following a high-speed police pursuit. The incident began after Brown escaped from Palmetto Hospital, where he had been held under the Baker Act for involuntary mental health evaluation.

After leaving the facility without authorization, Brown allegedly carjacked a woman in the hospital parking lot. During a chase through northwest Miami-Dade County, Brown drove erratically, traveling against traffic and striking other vehicles. The pursuit concluded when Florida Highway Patrol officers used PIT maneuvers to force his vehicle into a wall, immobilizing the car. The Hialeah Police Department is investigating the vehicle theft and flight.
