Fondation Beyeler museum expansion

Overview

The Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, Switzerland, is expanding its museum complex near Basel through a new ensemble of three buildings designed by architect Peter Zumthor. The expansion includes the Wyss Museum, the Ammann Pavilion, and the Erlen Torhaus (or Erlen Gatehouse).

The Wyss Museum provides approximately 1,500 square meters of gallery space across three floors, while the Ammann Pavilion is intended for cultural events and lounging, and the Erlen Gatehouse will support art logistics and staff operations. The project also involves the restoration of historic structures and the opening of the previously private Erlengarten, which will double the museum’s parkland.

A gradual opening phase is set to begin on September 26, 2026, with full regular operation scheduled to commence on January 15, 2027.
