Football violence in Salvador, Brazil

Overview

Violence erupted in Salvador, Brazil, during the Ba-Vi football derby between Bahia and Vitória. The clashes resulted in the deaths of two members of the Bamor supporters group, José Alexandre Souza Borges and Lucas dos Reis Bomfim, due to blade and gunshot wounds. The unrest also led to multiple injuries, the vandalism of public transport and commercial establishments, and the detention of approximately 60 people.

Following the incident, police arrested six men found with weapons including knives, brass knuckles, and homemade explosives. In response to the violence, the Bahia Military Police banned the Bamor and Os Imbatíveis supporter groups from attending sporting events for six months. Under this sanction, members are prohibited from attending matches while carrying any identifying items, such as banners, flags, or clothing.
