Foreign Trade University institutional and academic updates
Overview
Vietnam’s Foreign Trade University (FTU) has undertaken significant institutional and academic developments. In early August, the university announced a restructuring plan involving the launch of four new affiliated schools: the College of Economics and Public Management, the College of Business, the Vietnam-Japan College of Business and Innovation, and the College of Law and Political Science. This expansion is intended to streamline governance, increase academic autonomy, and strengthen industry and international links, with plans to eventually reach seven affiliated schools.
Following this restructuring, the university hosted academic forums in Hanoi focused on artificial intelligence. The AI4Econ&Biz 2026 workshop examined AI as a fundamental technological infrastructure for sustainable value and decision-making in Vietnam’s digital landscape. Additionally, a forum titled ‘Humanistic Thinking in the Age of AI,’ held in collaboration with the Ritsumeikan Institute of Tsinghua University, brought together experts from Vietnam and China to discuss how AI impacts cross-cultural learning, labor, and the necessity of maintaining cultural understanding and independent judgment.
