Forensic investigations of missing persons in Mexico and AR

Overview

In Mexico and Argentina, authorities have reported progress in locating and identifying remains related to missing persons.

In Urique, Mexico, investigators discovered a complete skeleton in a clandestine grave during a five-kilometer search operation along the Bahuichivo-El Churo road. Forensic experts are currently analyzing the remains, clothing, and a 9mm shell casing found at the site.

In Córdoba, Argentina, the Equipo Argentino de Antropología Forense (EAAF) has identified Alejandro Ernesto Jesús Jerez Boderau, a victim of forced disappearance during the military dictatorship. His remains were recovered from common graves in the Loma del Torito area, near the former La Perla clandestine detention center. The Federal Court of Córdoba, overseen by Judge Hugo Vaca Narvaja, confirmed the identification.

Jerez Boderau was a 22-year-old psychology student and IKA-Renault employee when he was kidnapped on May 5, 1976, alongside his partner, Susana Noemí Huarte Martínez. While Jerez Boderau has been identified, Huarte Martínez remains missing; her child, believed to have been born in captivity, is still being sought by Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo. Forensic analysis indicated the remains showed patterns of fragmentation and dispersion consistent with clandestine burials and mechanical removal intended to erase evidence of crimes. This marks the 30th individual identified at this location, while five sets of remains found at the site remain unidentified.
