Formula 2 technical updates for 2027–2029
Overview
FIA Formula 2 has introduced technical details for its next generation of racing cars, scheduled for use during the 2027, 2028, and 2029 seasons. The new vehicles will feature a modified aerodynamic package, specifically redesigned front and rear wings, intended to reduce turbulent airflow, facilitate overtaking, and more closely resemble modern Formula 1 styling.
While the aerodynamic design is being refreshed, the series will maintain several core technical components to ensure financial sustainability. The cars will continue to utilize the Dallara chassis, Mecachrome turbo V6 engines, Aramco sustainable fuel, and Pirelli tires.
Additional technical updates include an on-board starter motor developed by Hewland to allow drivers to restart vehicles after stalling. This new cycle follows the 2024–2026 models, which encountered difficulties regarding ground-effect characteristics and setup complexity.
