Francophone storytelling and seasonal festivals

Overview

Various storytelling festivals and oral tradition events continue across Quebec and several regions in France. In Quebec, the 30th edition of the Rendez-vous des Grandes Gueules features approximately fifty Francophone spoken-word artists performing across 21 locations in the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.

In France, the ‘Contes givrés’ festival has been running through October. Looking ahead to November, the ‘Contes d’automne’ festival is scheduled to take place in the Oise department. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region continues its programming with the ‘Aux 4 coins du conte’ festival in Trévoux, while the Compagnie Sac à Son hosts ‘Lâchers de conteurs’ in Champagne au Mont d’Or and Dardilly, providing storytelling sessions in schools, markets, and libraries.

Seasonal festivities are also expanding, with various municipalities in France organizing Halloween activities. These include costume contests in Montauban, family events in Agde, and an immersive haunted fairground experience in Gravelines. Additionally, the Institut français du Maroc is presenting ‘La Nuit de l’Horreur,’ a horror cinema cycle spanning nine cities, including Casablanca, Marrakech, and Rabat.
