Frankfurt municipal government restructuring

Frankfurt am Main is undergoing a restructuring of its municipal government and executive body, the Magistrat, following recent elections. The political composition of the twelve-member council has shifted, with the CDU returning to responsibility and the FDP losing its full-time positions.

Key organizational changes include the dissolution of the independent Department for Diversity, Anti-Discrimination, and Social Cohesion, which will have its duties integrated into the Department for the Environment. Additionally, the Department for Building is being separated from the Department for Education to become an independent entity once again.

As part of this transition, Sylvia Weber (SPD) is stepping down as the head of the building department. She is being succeeded by Wolfgang Siefert of the Green Party. During her five-year tenure, Weber oversaw 41 construction and renovation projects, including ten new school buildings and various museum renovations, while noting a significant backlog in school infrastructure due to decades of underinvestment.
