French rail travel and infrastructure developments
Overview
Rail travel in France has seen growth driven by regional and national discount initiatives. In the Occitanie region, a program offering €1 tickets for travelers under 27 sold approximately 910,000 tickets during the summer, an increase over previous years intended to support youth purchasing power and decarbonized mobility.
On a national level, SNCF launched the ‘Jours Traincroyables 2026’ campaign, which offers up to 200,000 tickets for a maximum of €19 for travel between September 8 and December 13 across the Ouigo network.
Parallel to these promotional efforts, infrastructure developments are underway for the RER B line in the Île-de-France region. A prototype of the new MI20 train has completed initial testing at the Alstom site in Crespin. These trains are designed to increase passenger capacity by 35% and include amenities such as air conditioning and USB-C charging ports.
