French regional art and mental health initiatives
Overview
Regional initiatives in France continue to utilize art and culture to promote mental health awareness and prevention.
In Draguignan, the Psycolloque association, in partnership with the city, held its fourth annual conference on September 26, 2026. Titled ‘Where psychology meets art and culture’, the multidisciplinary event featured philosophers, artists, and clinical psychologists discussing the influence of digital culture on adolescents and the intersection of creation and care.
In the Villefranche Beaujolais Saône agglomeration, Mental Health Weeks are scheduled for October 5 to 18, 2026. The program aims to reduce stigma and increase awareness of local health structures through community engagement, including forum theater for farmers, film screenings, and exhibitions. Notable activities include a presentation of works by workers with disabilities at ESAT Sol’Act and a youth-led photography and poetry exhibition at the Villefranche town hall.
To mark the 37th Mental Health Information Weeks (SISM), other regional programs have emerged. In Remiremont, the Le Cercle intercommunal media library, in partnership with the Vosges Departmental Council and the Remiremont Emotion Film Festival, is hosting artistic workshops. These sessions use painting, collage, and linocut to help participants explore and express emotions. Meanwhile, in Sabres, Unafam and the PTSM of Landes organized a film debate at the L’Estrade cinema. Following a screening of ‘Qui brille au combat’ by Joséphine Japy, which explores family relationships and mental health, a public discussion was held to foster dialogue regarding psychic disorders and family support.
