French road safety enforcement operations
Overview
French law enforcement agencies have implemented various road safety and prevention operations across multiple regions to combat dangerous driving and rising accident rates.
In early September, operations in Lumbres, Audruicq, Aire-sur-la-Lys, and Rennes focused on vehicle documentation, insurance, alcohol, and narcotics. In the Saint-Omer arrondissement, sub-prefect Sophie Pagès highlighted a rise in serious accidents, noting seven deaths since the beginning of the year. In Rennes, police conducted awareness campaigns targeting speeding and the protection of pedestrians and cyclists.
By late September, enforcement continued in the Vosges and Saône-et-Loire regions. In Vosges, authorities identified 106 infractions, including speeding and narcotics use. In Saône-et-Loire, operations involving over 60 gendarmes led to the seizure of 15 driver's licenses and the impounding of two vehicles, with recorded violations including alcohol and narcotics use, as well as extreme speeding.
