Fuel shortages in East Java

Fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations have been reported in East Java, specifically in Pamekasan and Jember. In Pamekasan, authorities noted that queues were worsened by illegal purchases of subsidized fuel using jerry cans and station attendants facilitating unauthorized sales. The situation was intensified by delayed supplies from Pertamina and subsequent panic buying.

In Jember, Pertamina attributed local delays to technical issues in the delivery and distribution process, despite national supplies remaining secure. To mitigate the shortage, an additional 100,000 liters of Pertalite and Pertamax were distributed to the area.

Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait has inspected local stations and proposed long-term solutions, including encouraging investors to build more gas stations and meeting with Pertamina leadership to diversify supply routes. The Regent suggested establishing alternative supply lines from Surabaya or Malang to reduce reliance on supplies from Banyuwangi and prevent future delays caused by infrastructure or traffic issues.
