Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire, and France military cooperation
Overview
Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire, and France have moved from the planning stages of the GEX 26 multinational military exercise into active specialized training operations.
Following a final planning conference held in Libreville, Gabon, in late September to coordinate simultaneous maneuvers in November, military forces have begun implementing specific training objectives.
In Côte d’Ivoire, troops are conducting commando and obstacle crossing training in Abidjan to prepare for deployment with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Meanwhile, in Gabon, French personnel are working with Gabonese non-commissioned officers on equatorial forest operations. This technical training focuses on jungle infiltration and site seizure to combat illegal gold mining.
