Officials noted that while the central government is required to provide 50% of funding under the Dependency Law, the actual contribution has historically decreased to 32%.

By September 2026, the regional government approved a project to create 1,800 new residential places for the elderly via the construction of 25 new centers. Utilizing a public-private partnership model, the project ensures at least 60% of the new places remain under public ownership. These facilities will be distributed across municipalities with fewer than 25,000 inhabitants in the provinces of A Coruña, Pontevedra, Ourense, and Lugo, with the expectation of generating approximately 1,000 jobs.
