Galician initiatives honoring women's history
Overview
Various initiatives have been launched in Galicia to honor the history and achievements of women, often linking their legacies to the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes.
FEMURO has introduced the “O Camiño con Nome de Muller” project, supported by the Xunta de Galicia. This initiative seeks to recover the stories of both documented historical figures and anonymous rural women, such as midwives and healers, through audiovisual content and guided historical walks in municipalities including Monterrei, Vilar de Santos, and Laza.
Simultaneously, the Federation of Women of Pontevedra (FEMUPO) is hosting a traveling exhibition titled ‘Mulleres FEMUPO, mulleres que fan Camiño’. Currently hosted at the Pazo de Mos, the exhibition highlights women recognized in the FEMUPO Women's Awards between 2022 and 2026. The project travels through ten municipalities along the Portuguese Way and the Portuguese Coastal Way, utilizing digital content and participatory workshops to provide female role models for younger generations.
