Galician university enrollment and student trends

Overview

Data regarding the Galician University System (SUG) indicates a high level of full-time commitment among students. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the number of students opting for partial dedication to balance studies with work or family responsibilities reached a decade low of 13.6 percent, leaving Galicia with one of the highest full-time enrollment rates in Spain.

Recent enrollment figures show 12,035 new undergraduate enrollments, with 94.28 percent of students securing a place within their top three preferences. The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) reported the highest volume, while the University of Vigo (UVigo) reported a 103 percent occupancy rate. Due to this high demand, UVigo Rector Carmen García Mateo has requested that the Xunta increase university capacity to prevent potential dropout rates or students leaving for private institutions.
