Gardella exhibition at Milan PAC

On July 21, 2026 the Italian Ministry of Culture announced the open‑call for the Italy Pavilion at the 2027 Biennale Architecture, naming ten finalists and setting a 45‑day deadline for detailed dossiers. The same announcement highlighted the Palazzo dell’Arte Contemporanea (PAC) in Milan, which had opened the exhibition “Architettura alla prova,” curated by architect Claudia Cavallo in partnership with the Politecnico di Milano. The show, running until mid‑September, examines Ignazio Gardella’s 1954 pavilion design and its restoration after the 1993 mafia bombing.

A week later, on July 27, the narrative shifted to a commemorative perspective. The PAC’s “Architettura alla prova” exhibition was presented as part of the thirty‑year anniversary of the building’s reconstruction following the Via Palestro bombing. The description reiterated Cavallo’s curatorial role and stressed the exhibition’s focus on architecture’s civil and symbolic functions, framing rebuilding as both a political and cultural act.
