Gas leak and fatal collision in San Antonio la Isla
Overview
A fatal collision involving a gas tanker and a trailer occurred on the Toluca-Tenango highway near Floracopio in the municipality of San Antonio la Isla. The accident, which took place around 06:00 hours, resulted in at least one death, preliminarily identified as the operator of one of the vehicles.
The crash caused a gas leak, prompting an extensive emergency response to prevent fire or explosions. Authorities, including the Mexican Army, National Guard, and State Police, established a security perimeter and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution. Firefighters and Civil Protection worked to control the leak and cool the tanker.
The highway was closed in both directions to facilitate emergency maneuvers and vehicle removal, causing significant traffic disruptions for commuters traveling toward Tenango del Valle and the southern Valle de Toluca. Authorities advised motorists to use alternative routes such as the Old Tenango Road or the Bicentenario Bypass.
