GEKRAFS creative economy initiatives in Indonesia
Overview
The National Creative Economy Movement (GEKRAFS) has undertaken several initiatives to bolster Indonesia’s creative sectors. Initially, the organization focused on regional expansion, with new leadership inaugurated in Banyumas to develop ecosystems in the culinary, music, automotive, and digital industries. In Yogyakarta, GEKRAFS aimed to leverage major city anniversaries to increase economic turnover for MSMEs and artists through heightened tourist mobility.
Following these regional efforts, the movement established a national-level partnership. The Indonesian National Police (Polri) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GEKRAFS during the 2026 National Creative Economy Day (HEKRAFNAS) in Jakarta. National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto stated that Polri is committed to “protecting and guarding the creative economy ecosystem,” viewing creative individuals as essential national assets for a progressive Indonesia.
