Gender equality initiatives in Mexican public administration
Overview
Mexican state governments are expanding initiatives to integrate gender equality and inclusive practices into public administration.
In Tamaulipas, the Tamaulipas Institute of Housing and Urbanism (ITAVU) launched training sessions in coordination with the Secretariat of Women. The program focuses on using non-sexist language and inclusive communication to avoid discrimination and stereotypes in public services. Additionally, the Tamaulipas Superior Auditor's Office (ASE) established a new Gender Equality Unit in Ciudad Victoria, bringing the state's total to 54 such units aimed at incorporating a gender perspective into auditing procedures.
In Puebla, the Secretariat of Women is continuing workshops on inclusive and non-sexist language. Following a 2025 program that reached 2,034 participants, the state intends to expand coverage to all 27 micro-regions by 2026, targeting municipal government members and public servants to transform discriminatory practices.
