Overview
The Italian Senate is reviewing Senate Bill A.S. n. 88/2026, which aims to establish norms for gender balance in appointments for independent authorities, government advisory committees, and both public and listed companies. This legislative effort seeks to build upon previous attempts to ensure equality in these roles.
In support of these efforts, UN Women Italy, in partnership with Deloitte, released its second National Report. The report identifies a persistent gender gap in the Italian workforce, noting that while women often achieve higher educational qualifications than men, they face obstacles such as fewer career advancement opportunities, underrepresentation in decision-making roles, and greater economic insecurity during retirement.
To address these issues, UN Women Italy organized a conference at the Senate titled ‘From Formal Equality to Substantive Equality’ to discuss the transition from formal rights to effective, substantive equality.
