GERD treatment expansion in Indonesia

Overview

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) prevalence is rising in Indonesia, driven by lifestyle and dietary changes. Reports indicate a general population prevalence of approximately 9.35 percent, with over half of patients in tertiary hospitals suffering from erosive esophagitis.

In response to this growing health issue, PT Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia has launched fexuprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) therapy. The product, marketed as Fexuclue 40mg, has been approved for treating erosive GERD.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical aims to capitalize on Indonesia’s growing anti-ulcer market by emphasizing the drug’s rapid acid suppression. To expand its clinical utility, the company is pursuing multi-national phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea and Indonesia to seek approval for treating gastric ulcers.
