German automotive group insolvencies

Overview

German automotive distribution groups Autohaus König and Wahl-Gruppe have filed for insolvency.

Autohaus König, a major distributor for Renault and Dacia, filed in Berlin. The group operates 82 sites with approximately 1,200 employees. Despite reporting a profit in 2024, the company faces debts exceeding 212 million euros. Operations are expected to continue during restructuring or investor searches.

Simultaneously, the Wahl-Gruppe, a BMW dealer, filed for insolvency for six of its companies. Operating 31 locations across North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate, the group employs around 1,000 people. Management attributed the filing to rising costs and declining sales resulting from “consumer spending restraint”.
