German cancer center funding expansion

Overview

In early August 2026, the Deutsche Krebshilfe announced a €35.4 million allocation for the next four years to broaden Germany’s Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) network, adding new sites in Kiel, Lübeck and Mannheim and aiming to serve roughly 250,000 cancer patients annually. The same announcement included a separate €1 million grant for the MYK‑IMPAKT project, a 30‑month research effort to develop new care concepts for invasive fungal infections affecting immunocompromised patients.

Two days later, the foundation confirmed further funding for existing centres. It granted €4.8 million to the Mitteldeutsche Krebszentrum (Leipzig‑Jena) for 2024‑2027, supporting over 24,000 patients each year, and approved a new award exceeding €6 million for the Comprehensive Cancer Center Allianz Würzburg/Erlangen/Regensburg/Augsburg (CCC WERA) for 2027‑2030, strengthening cross‑site research, clinical trials and infrastructure across the Bavarian and Upper‑Franconian sites.
