Overview

Germany is highlighting its geological and subterranean landscapes through various educational and recreational activities.

In late August and early September 2026, German geoparks scheduled several geological excursions. The GrenzWelten National Geopark organized tours focusing on gravel pit machinery and limestone dome structures, while the UNESCO Global Geopark Ries marked its 20th anniversary with expert-led excursions to active quarries to demonstrate the history of the Ries crater and modern industrial stone use.

Complementing these geological studies, the country offers diverse subterranean experiences.
