German glioma vaccine development

In early July 2026 German cancer researchers announced promising results from an experimental vaccine targeting aggressive brain tumors. By the end of the month, detailed findings from a phase‑1 trial of an IDH1‑mutant glioma vaccine were released. The study, involving 33 patients with newly diagnosed high‑grade astrocytomas, reported that two‑thirds of participants remained alive eight years after enrollment and 42 % achieved disease‑free survival when the vaccine was combined with standard therapy. Strong T‑cell and B‑cell responses were linked to the best outcomes, and booster doses given years later boosted immunity without added side effects. The same research team introduced the Core2Edge platform—a human‑tissue model that merges patient‑derived glioblastoma organoids with discarded brain slices—to map tumor infiltration and test drugs directly on human tissue, eliminating the need for animal experiments.
