German local community anniversaries and festivals

Various German communities are holding celebrations for local anniversaries and milestones.

In the Wolfenbüttel region, the district of Atzum celebrated its 975th anniversary with festivities held from August 28 to 30. In Thülen, the St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft marked its 200th anniversary with a festival from August 28 to 30, which included a mass and a ceremony to honor the outgoing imperial couple before selecting a new ‘Kaiser’.

In Künzell, the district of Engelhelms marked its 750th anniversary with a weekend of music and community challenges. Highlights included a concert by the band Dorfrocker and a challenge where 750 residents earned the German Sports Badge, a goal set by Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Brand. The event also featured support from the Loreley Engelhelms men’s choir.

Other recent celebrations include Oberscheibe, where residents marked 625 years since the village was first documented in 1401, and Altfalter, which hosted its tenth annual Bartholomäus-Kirwa at the Schlossbauernhof, featuring music and traditional culinary offerings.

Recent festivities have continued with the St. Sebastian Schützenbruderschaft 1826 in Hövel celebrating its 200th anniversary through ceremonial processions, musical performances, and shooting competitions to select a jubilee king. In Garzweiler, the St. Sebastianus-Schützenbruderschaft organized the Schützenbiwak, which included a village square gathering and a jazz café. The St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft in Thülen also held its 200-year anniversary festival, featuring a mass, ceremonial parade, and a party to select a new emperor.
