German police enforcement actions

Overview

In late July 2026 German authorities carried out a large‑scale drug operation in Kiel and Bremen, seizing roughly one kilogram of heroin, 40 g of pure cocaine, 170 g of crack, cash exceeding €100 000 and drug‑cutting agents. Two men were arrested and, in Kiel, a broad residency ban covering most of the Gaarden district was imposed; the ban was later challenged in the Schleswig administrative court.

The same period saw a coordinated “Speedweek” blitz targeting impaired driving in Rosenheim, Heilbad Heiligenstadt, Munich, Hannover and other locations, resulting in numerous DUI arrests, travel bans and fines.

In early August 2026 traffic‑safety efforts intensified. A nationwide “Blitzermarathon” speed‑enforcement campaign was launched across most German states, while Saxony ran a school‑focused speed check. Police in Germany and Austria seized high‑speed e‑scooters, stopped drivers for speeding and DUI, and ordered 190 vehicles off the road. Weapons seized during routine stops included a Kalashnikov‑type rifle, a disabled assault rifle, a gas‑pistol, knives, a blank‑firing weapon and a water‑pistol; an Austrian racer fled after brandishing a weapon on the A1.

Federal Police recorded more than 40 daily offences on trains and stations in Saxony‑Anhalt, totalling 7,800 incidents in the first half of the year, prompting calls for stronger security. An isolated shooting in Ingolstadt led to the arrest of two suspects, underscoring the broadened focus of law‑enforcement activity from drug trafficking to wider public‑order and safety measures.
