German seaport wage negotiations

Overview

The ver.di trade union has accepted a wage proposal from the Central Association of German Seaport Companies (ZDS), preventing potential indefinite strikes at major German ports including Hamburg, Bremen, Bremerhaven, Emden, Brake, and Wilhelmshaven.

The 12-month collective agreement affects approximately 11,000 employees. The deal includes a 3.4 percent increase in hourly wages, retroactive to August 1, 2026, and a 200 euro increase in holiday pay starting in 2027. Additionally, workers in high-turnover container operations will receive an extra 416 euro annual allowance beginning January 1, 2027. The agreement follows several rounds of negotiations and warning strikes, though final formal completion is pending employer approval.
