German urban residential development projects

Urban development and residential construction projects are advancing across several German cities. In Ulm, a contract was signed for the Blau. Quartier development, a 4.7-hectare phase intended to provide approximately 900 residential units, including 40 percent subsidized housing, alongside commercial and service spaces.

In Berlin, a proposed development plan for the Karlshorst harness racing track—which includes between 656 and 736 apartments—has faced formal objections from the Verein Karlshorst e. V. The association argues the plan threatens historical monuments and recreational areas, claiming the conflict between residential construction and equestrian activities is “structurally unresolvable.”

Other regions are also expanding housing capacity. Kiel is developing subsidized apartments in Wellsee and Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf, including units specifically for families and individuals requiring barrier-free access. Meanwhile, Schwerin is planning large-scale residential quarters, including approximately 1,000 new homes in the Warnitz field and up to 600 units on a former factory site, to facilitate urban growth.
