German volunteer and community project funding
Overview
In late 2026, various volunteer and community projects in Germany received funding through regional and national initiatives aimed at supporting social engagement and digitalization.
The state of Hessen announced a 1.5 million euro allocation for its ‘Ehrenamt digitalisiert!’ program to assist clubs and non-profit organizations with digital development, such as membership management and technology training. State Parliament Member Birgit Heitland stated the program helps organizations use digitalization to “ease volunteer work and maintain social cohesion.”
Further funding was distributed through the ‘machen! 2026’ competition, organized by the German Federal Commissioner for East Germany and the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering (DSEE), which awarded over 830,000 euros. In the Oder-Spree district, four projects received a total of 16,000 euros. Additionally, in the Hochtaunuskreis region, four associations were awarded 45,658 euros via the Hessian ‘Ehrenamt digitalisiert!’ program to invest in hardware, software, and administrative digitalization.
