German wind and hydrogen energy developments

Overview

Renewable energy developments in Germany have focused on expanding wind capacity and hydrogen infrastructure. European Energy secured 89.6 MW of onshore wind capacity through German Federal Network Agency auctions, obtaining long-term remuneration support for upcoming projects.

In the hydrogen sector, Verbund and EWE AG announced a joint venture to develop the ‘CHC Electrolysis JadeWeser’ hub. This project aims to produce roughly 50,000 tons of green hydrogen annually using an electrolyzer with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts, intended for connection to the core hydrogen network by 2032.

Industry activity has also been highlighted through major trade fairs in Hamburg. The WindEnergy Hamburg 2026 event brought together approximately 40,000 specialists to discuss technological innovations, while a concurrent hydrogen and carbon dioxide trade fair featured over 1,000 exhibitors, including Siemens and Evonik, to facilitate procurement and market integration.
