Germany KfW housing support programs

Overview

In early July 2026, Germany’s development bank KfW highlighted its low‑interest loan scheme and the Wohngeld allowance for interim renters as part of ongoing housing assistance.

By early August, attention shifted to the KfW‑run “Barrier‑Reduction – Investment Grant” programme, which began on 8 April 2026 with €50 million from the federal housing ministry. The grant was fully allocated by 30 July, supporting roughly 26,800 residential units with an average subsidy of €1,720. New applications were closed from August, though pending requests would still be processed. No replacement round has been announced, but KfW indicated a possible reopening if federal funds become available in 2027.
