Ghana export promotion initiatives
Entities: Ian Greenstreet · Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa · Ghana · Dr Cassiel Ato Forson · Ghana International Bank
Overview
In mid‑July 2026 Ghana accelerated export‑promotion actions. The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry met with ASSETS to discuss capacity‑building for startups, while the Ghana Trade Fair Company and Republic Bank launched the SME Connect event in Accra, linking firms with the Export Promotion Authority and other agencies. The Export Promotion Authority then signed an MoU with the Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries to boost horticultural shipments to the EU, targeting US$10 billion by 2030, and the Export‑Import Bank partnered with Ghana International Bank to expand trade‑finance services and cross‑border payment facilities.
At the end of July, Ghana International Bank chief executive Ian Greenstreet spent ten days touring factories, ports and processing sites, meeting entrepreneurs and senior ministers. He pledged that the bank will go beyond financing to act as a partner delivering the capital and banking services needed for Ghanaian exporters to scale globally, and highlighted the need for long‑term funding and compliance with international financing standards. Greenstreet’s remarks reinforced the bank’s historic role as a bridge to world financial markets and underscored the government’s broader push to strengthen export capacity.
