Ghana NDC internal election reforms

In early July 2026, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana was rocked by internal disputes. A youth organiser denied involvement in a press conference that called for the removal of the regional election supervisor, while a leaked voice note alleged inappropriate conduct by the party chairman with a sitting MP. The incidents sparked demands for formal petitions, transparent investigations and heightened scrutiny of the party’s disciplinary processes.

By early August, the NDC shifted focus to structuring its upcoming 2026 internal elections. The party released a detailed timetable covering nominations, filings, vetting and voting for constituency, regional and national executive posts. It also announced major reforms, notably the abolition of the delegate system in favour of universal member suffrage, aiming to curb corruption and broaden participation ahead of the 2028 general election.
