Ghana public safety and awareness initiatives
Overview
Public safety agencies in Ghana have launched various educational campaigns to promote prevention and consumer protection.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) conducted fire safety education programs at technical and agricultural institutes in the Akatsi South Municipality. These sessions focused on fire outbreak causes, preventive measures, and the proper use of fire extinguishers. Additionally, the Kpong Fire Station implemented a road safety campaign along the Tema–Akosombo Highway to sensitize motorists on speed management, seatbelt use, and avoiding mobile phone distractions.
In the petroleum sector, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) expanded its focus toward community engagement and public education. During Consumer Week, NPA Chief Executive Godwin Kudzo Tameklo emphasized the need to establish safety throughout the downstream petroleum sector. He specifically warned against the dangerous practice of siphoning fuel from overturned tankers at accident scenes, noting that such actions pose significant risks to lives and communities.
