Ghana security operations against violent crime

Overview

Security operations in Ghana have targeted violent crime and the illegal use of firearms. In the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, a joint police and military operation resulted in the death of Isaka Sabani, also known as ‘Culture’. Sabani was a suspect in attempted murder and unlawful firearm discharge; authorities recovered an AK-47 and 28 rounds of ammunition during the operation.

Expanding on these efforts, the Ghana Police Service reported a nationwide crackdown against robbery gangs, murder suspects, and weapons traffickers. This intelligence-led initiative led to several arrests and the recovery of 11 AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, and 357 rounds of ammunition. The operations addressed various crimes, including attacks on motorists, gold dealers, and banks, as well as the dismantling of robbery gangs in the Wassa Akropong and Manso areas.
