Ghana SSNIT pension fund management
Overview
In 2026, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) reported paying GH¢6.71 billion in benefits between January and September. These disbursements covered monthly invalidity pensions, survivors’ benefits, and emigration benefits. To support these operations, SSNIT implemented digital transformation initiatives and a mobile service campaign to assist with membership and benefit processing, specifically targeting the informal sector.
To ensure the stability of the three-tier pension system, the Ghanaian government released over GH¢4.40 billion to SSNIT and toward second-tier pension obligations. This funding was intended to address outstanding obligations and prevent administrative delays affecting fund security and interest accrual.
