Ghanaian fintech ecosystem development
Overview
Mobile Money Fintech LTD (MMFL) has initiated efforts to expand the digital financial services ecosystem in Ghana. The company launched the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide innovation programme in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and technology partner Hubtel. The initiative aims to scale fintech solutions through mentorship and incubation across Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale.
Following this, MMFL CEO Shaibu Haruna advocated for the sector to shift focus from basic financial access toward the long-term financial well-being of users. To support this transition, MMFL—a subsidiary of MTN Ghana—is evolving into a holistic platform by establishing strategic partnerships with IC Wealth, Misika, Coronation, and Flexi Pension to offer credit, investment, and pension solutions to its 17 million active customers.
