Ghanaian political party campaign restrictions

Overview

Ghana’s major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have introduced new regulations to govern internal campaign activities.

The NPP issued directives ordering parliamentary aspirants, agents, and supporters to cease all campaign activities, including the mounting of posters and organizing rallies. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong noted that premature campaigning breaches party regulations. The NDC simultaneously implemented restrictions on the size and placement of promotional materials, mandating that posters and banners must not exceed specific dimensions and must be restricted to designated locations to avoid extravagance.

Following these initial directives, the NPP intensified its stance by warning that failure to comply with the campaign suspension could result in the disqualification of aspirants from the upcoming parliamentary primaries. Director of Communications Dennis Miracles Aboagye stated that adherence to these rules is necessary to prove a candidate’s fitness for leadership and willingness to abide by party discipline.
