Ghanaian security service leadership appointments
Overview
In October 2026, the Ghanaian government implemented several high-level leadership changes within the nation’s security and correctional services.
Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno decorated 22 officers promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. These promotions, approved by President John Dramani Mahama, were intended to strengthen leadership for regional and senior positions within the Ghana Police Service.
Following these police promotions, President Mahama also appointed 15 officers to the Ghana Prisons Service. These appointments, which took effect on July 1, 2026, involved elevating seven Deputy Directors to the rank of Director of Prisons and eight Assistant Directors to the rank of Deputy Director of Prisons. These promotions followed the advice of the Prisons Service Council and complied with the 1992 Constitution. The promoted officers include regional commanders from the Western, Bono-Ahafo, Greater Accra, and Central regions.
