Ghanaian sports administration and financing reform

Overview

Ghanaian sports officials have initiated efforts to restructure the administration and financing of national sports. Initially, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams called for the unification of management structures, arguing that the existing practice of assigning separate Management Committees to each national team was “inefficient” and created “avoidable administrative challenges.” Adams proposed a single Management Committee to oversee all national teams to improve coordination and reduce government pressure.

Following these calls for reform, the National Sports Authority (NSA) inaugurated a five-member Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee to support the ‘Reset Ghana Sports Agenda’. Chaired by Samson Deen, this committee is tasked with modernizing sports financing by moving toward strategic investment and securing sustainable funding for 58 sports federations. The initiative aims to establish corporate partnerships, improve infrastructure, and develop talent to reach international standards.
