Gia Lai transport fare regulation and investigation

Overview

Following reports of excessive passenger fares in the Quy Nhon area, the Gia Lai Department of Construction launched an investigation into transport overcharging. The incident involved a tourist who was charged approximately 70,000 to 75,000 VND for a 2-kilometer trip, a fare significantly higher than the 43,000 to 51,000 VND indicated by digital applications. The driver and the ASIA Quy Nhon Transport Cooperative admitted to the discrepancy and issued public apologies.

In response to the incident, authorities have moved to increase transparency by disclosing detailed information for 19 taxi companies, 17 electronic contract transport units, and three electric vehicle operators. This regulatory disclosure includes company contact details, uniforms, and required fare structures. Officials have demanded that all providers strictly adhere to declared rates and prohibited unauthorized price increases to protect the region's tourism image.
