Gian Piero Gasperini in Italian football

AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been a central figure in recent Italian football discussions. Following a 2–0 victory against Torino, public attention focused on a meeting between Gasperini and former Juventus executive Luciano Moggi in Turin. Moggi described the encounter as casual, noting they “talked about the match and all sorts of little things,” while also offering praise for the Roma squad and the performance of players such as Donyell Malen and Paulo Dybala. In subsequent developments, Gasperini reflected on his tenure, identifying a match against Verona as his most emotional milestone due to the cohesion shown by the team and the support of fans. Additionally, Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso publicly lauded Gasperini at a sports festival in Trento, characterizing him as the most influential manager in Italian football since Arrigo Sacchi for bringing new elements to the sport. More recently, Gasperini addressed the club’s ownership and squad management. He expressed a desire for increased involvement from the Friedkin family, noting that their distance from Rome differs from the daily presence he experienced with the Percassi family in Bergamo. He suggested closer engagement would benefit the club as it approaches its centenary and plans for a new stadium. Regarding the roster, Gasperini defended blocking Manu Koné’s transfer due to insufficient time for paperwork and provided fitness updates on Bryan Cristante, who remains a doubt for matches against Como and Real Madrid. He also confirmed that Paulo Dybala and Molina would skip travel to Argentina to avoid the physical toll of long flights. On a personal note, he discussed the intense football culture in Rome and Naples and introduced a new wine, ‘Fresa 3-4-3’, inspired by his career. Discussions surrounding Gasperini have also drawn comparisons to former manager José Mourinho.
