Gianluca Rocchi career transition

Overview

Gianluca Rocchi, the former referee designator and head of the VAR committee for Serie A and Serie B, has transitioned into a media role following the conclusion of investigations into alleged refereeing irregularities.

In early October 2026, it was announced that Rocchi would join DAZN as a technical pundit for the 2026-27 season, providing analysis on gameplay and refereeing decisions. This move followed the archiving of investigations by the Milan Prosecutor's Office and the FIGC Federal Prosecutor, which found no evidence of interference in championship results.

By late October 2026, Rocchi resigned from the Associazione Italiana Arbitri (AIA). The resignation was prompted by a conflict between his new media commitments at DAZN and AIA regulations, which restrict members from making public evaluations of active colleagues. Rocchi stepped down to ensure full freedom of commentary and to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
