Gijón Noche de los Fuegos fireworks planning
Overview
The city of Gijón has been planning a redesign for its annual ‘Noche de los Fuegos’ fireworks display. Initial proposals by the public company Divertia suggested expanding the event from the central Cerro de Santa Catalina site to include up to two additional launch points from the sea to create a synchronized three-point system. This expansion was subject to safety authorizations from the Guardia Civil and maritime authorities following a previous attempt that was denied permits.
By mid-August, plans for the Gijón display were finalized with the event set to feature 20,000 explosions over 22 minutes. Managed by Pirotecnia Zaragozana, the show will utilize 1,600 kilograms of gunpowder and incorporate new sound effects and sequences, though it will be launched from a single point at the Cerro.
