Global airport carbon accreditation progress

Various international airports are advancing through the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme to manage and reduce their environmental impact.

Jersey Airport has attained Level 4 ‘Transformation’ status, joining a group of European facilities that set long-term targets and collaborate with partners. To reach this, Ports of Jersey transitioned to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and renewable BioLPG, implemented energy-efficiency upgrades, and introduced new aircraft descent procedures. The airport aims for net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030. Concurrently, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority reached Level 1, focusing on identifying and measuring its carbon footprint.

In the Philippines, Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) became the first in the country to achieve Level 2 accreditation. Following a verified greenhouse gas inventory, MCIA implemented strategies such as utilizing a 1.64 MWp rooftop solar array, smart sensors, and LED lighting. The airport aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission intensity by over 90 percent by 2029, with a long-term goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
