Global antimony supply chain development
Overview
Efforts to secure and diversify antimony supply chains are advancing through new processing and production initiatives in multiple regions.
In Australia, the Victoria state government has issued grants to Gekko Systems and Southern Cross Gold Consolidated Ltd to support early-stage downstream processing. This move aims to leverage local reserves for strategic needs in defense, energy, and battery technologies.
In Mexico, Antimony Resources Limited has transitioned from exploration to production, commencing a 200-tonne proof-of-concept concentrate production campaign at the Tecomatlán Processing Plant using material from the Chinantla mine.
In the United States, Nova Minerals has completed the permitting process for an antimony project in Alaska, with production targeted for 2027. The project’s first phase is supported by US$43.4 million from the US Department of Defense to increase domestic capacity for military-grade antimony trisulphide. The company also intends to establish a refinery near Port MacKenzie to create an integrated production hub for military and industrial applications.
