Global economic shifts driven by AI and intangible assets

Overview

Artificial intelligence and intangible assets continue to drive global economic shifts. While 54% of organizations report tangible benefits from AI, structural challenges are emerging. The Experis CIO Outlook 2026 study highlights human-centric hurdles, specifically a critical talent gap and a lack of executive understanding regarding the evolving role of the CIO. In Chile and Latin America, 48% of CIOs are now prioritizing the alignment of IT strategy with business objectives.

Sector-specific transformations are accelerating. In the digital landscape, generative AI is shifting search behavior from keyword-based queries to conversational interactions, challenging traditional advertising models. In retail, AI agents are projected to mediate between US$ 3 trillion and US$ 5 trillion in transactions by 2030. Agriculture in Brazil is integrating AI to boost productivity, though it faces fragmented data and rising cyberattacks.

In healthcare, ambient AI tools are transitioning from pilot phases to full-scale deployment. These technologies passively listen to physician-patient conversations to automatically generate clinical notes, aiming to reduce physician workloads and mitigate ‘pajama time’—the hours spent on documentation after shifts. A study in JMIR indicates that ambient AI scribes can save approximately 24 minutes per 8-hour shift. However, widespread implementation introduces governance challenges, including concerns over ‘cognitive deskilling’ among physicians and ethical issues regarding patient consent when an ‘invisible listener’ is present.

Cybersecurity and environmental concerns are also rising. AI is enabling more sophisticated threats, such as deepfakes, while the environmental impact of rising energy and water consumption in data centers poses significant sustainability challenges. These shifts occur alongside the massive scale of intangible assets, which WIPO estimated reached nearly USD $100 trillion in 2025.
